Toronto, July 23, 2024 – Classic Fire + Life Safety, a leader in the Canadian fire and life safety industry, announces today it will be providing AVD (Aqueous Vermiculite Dispersion) fire extinguishers in partnership with Victory Fire & Gas. With the launch, Classic Fire + Life Safety is the second fire protection provider in the country to offer this type of innovative fire extinguisher that effectively mitigates the risk posed by lithium battery fires.

The new Victory Fire AVD6L fire extinguisher leverages the cutting-edge lithium battery fire agent AVD, which has also been verified as effective by UL solutions and is distributed in North America by Victory Fire & Gas. These extinguishers are the only ones in Canada that have undergone UL testing to verify they are effective to suppress and extinguish lithium battery fires, ensuring the highest standards of safety and effectiveness.

“There has been a surge in news and social media stories highlighting the dangers of lithium-ion battery fires,” says Francois Godin, CEO of Classic Fire + Life Safety. “While the actual number of incidents may be relatively small, their impact can be significant. Our new AVD fire extinguishers provide a crucial solution for these high-risk situations. We are excited to offer this advanced technology to our customers, ensuring they have the best possible protection against these unique fire hazards.”

Lithium-ion batteries pose unique fire risks. Traditional fire extinguishers are often ineffective against these types of fires, which can lead to devastating consequences in residential, commercial and industrial settings. The portable AVD fire extinguishers are ideal for private and public spaces such as parking garages, multi-residential housing and commercial properties, libraries, malls and offices where an individual could encounter a fire that has been ignited from their personal e-bike, cell phone or laptop.

The Victory Fire & Gas AVD6L received UL/ULC approval in November 2023 and can be found listed under file number EX29073. Additionally, the AVD agent itself is a recognized component under file number EX28967.

AVD was launched in the UK in 2013, is certified in Europe and the vermiculite-based extinguishing agent earned Gold at the Expo protection 2020 trade fair.

These state-of-the-art 6L extinguishers are now available through Classic Fire + Life Safety branches across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario.

“We are proud to partner with companies like Classic Fire + Life Safety as we continue to expand internationally to bring businesses and organizations the fire safety equipment they need,” says Alan Young, Sales Coordinator at Victory Fire & Gas.
