Classic Fire + Life Safety celebrates ten years of business this year in Winnipeg with the promise of growth to come. Founded in 2012 under the FCFP banner, the fire sprinkler, alarm, and security systems specialist completed a rebrand in late November 2021. Its name was changed to Classic Fire + Life Safety, a reflection of its merger with Classic Fire Protection.
“I have been here for just over two years, and I have seen tremendous growth during this short time,” said Randy Skromeda, Western Regional Manager for Classic FLS.
Hired in May 2020, Skromeda’s primary role has been to help run the Manitoba office and support the regional team in living out the company’s mission of trust, leadership, and Integrity. The branch’s initial focus was on new construction projects while team members were also encouraged to strengthen their presence in the community. Skromeda quickly broadened this focus by growing the service side of the business, which includes code compliant preventative maintenance and repairs for clients.
After ten years of business, when visiting Portage & Main, a major retailer and multi-story residential property development at the core of the city, it has become common to see a Classic Fire + Life Safety white van or truck, adorned with the newly created logo, a corporate signature that features a stylized “C” in the shape of a shield and cornerstone. The new branding represents a new chapter in the company’s history.
“I am looking forward to the future of our company, especially in this exciting and growing part of the country,” says Francois Godin, CEO of Classic FLS. “Our team in Winnipeg represents a strong base and foundation from which to grow westwards. I’m excited to see what comes next.”
Tucked away on Church Ave., the original Winnipeg branch was small and modest. In December 2020, the branch moved to a new facility that is double the size of the original one and includes a warehouse and fenced-in compound.
Account management, client relations and focusing on acquiring new clients have been integral parts of growing the business for Skromeda and the Winnipeg team. There is a constant ebb and flow of people coming in and out of the office during times when field staff are gathering materials for repairs, service calls, and construction projects in the works.
In 2020, the team was composed of four employees. Today, it has grown to 10 – and looking to add more. Its largest and most exciting project has been a contract for a women’s hospital, delivering essential fire sprinkler protection systems to this mission- and community-critical facility.
Two years into his new career, Skromeda enjoys reflecting on the uniqueness of the marketplace.
“My philosophy is that we must strive to complete high quality work and provide our clients with positive experiences that will result in repeat business and referrals,” concludes Skromeda. “We place a high value on the importance of effective communication with our clients, and it’s paying off.”
Randy and his team are excited to be a part of this important milestone and proud to have serviced the community for ten years. They look forward to continuing to service the local communities for years to come.
Classic Fire + Life safety has over nine branches across Canada, servicing thousands of clients across all industries, including the areas of fire sprinkler, fire alarm and security systems.
